5 Physical Therapy Stretches to Relieve Hand Pain

Physical therapy stretches are a great way to strengthen and stretch the hands, as well as relieve and prevent hand pain. Try these 5 simple stretches to relieve your hand pain:

1. Wrist Flexor Stretch

Put the arm of the affected hand straight out in front of you with your palm facing away from you and  your fingers facing downward. Use your other hand to pull your fingers towards your body. Hold this pose for 15 seconds and repeat 3 times.

2. Wrist Extensor Stretch

Put the arm of the affected hand straight out in front of you with your palm facing towards you and your fingers facing downward. Use your other hand to pull the affect hand toward your body. Hold this pose for 15 seconds and repeat 3 times.

3. Claw Stretch

Hold your affected hand out with your palm facing you. Bend your fingers and your thumb so that they are touching your hand. Hold this stretch for 30 seconds and repeat 2 times.

4. Fist Stretch

Make a fist, placing your thumb across your fingers. Hold for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, release your fist and stretch your thumb and fingers. Repeat 2 more times.

5. Thumb Touch

Hold your hand out like you are going to give someone a high five. Touch your thumb to each finger and hold each pose for 30 seconds. Repeat this 3 times.
