With new technology making strides in healthcare, injury rehabilitation and prevention is becoming safer and more efficient than ever before. Among those advances is an anti-gravity treadmill you can find at MPower Physical Therapy called the Alter-G®.
What Is the Alter-G®?
The AlterG® anti-gravity treadmill is a tool for injury rehabilitation like physical therapy and cardiovascular training. Unlike a standard treadmill, this machine does not require your full body weight to run.
How Does the ALTERG® Work?
With technology known as Differential Air Pressure (DAP), you are able to reduce your body weight by as much as 80%. This lowers your impact from walking or running, making movement easier and less taxing.
If you have recently suffered an injury, you may choose to start at a lower percentage and work your way up. Toggling your weight is easy and fast.
Should I Consider an Anti-gravity Treadmill for Physical Therapy?
There are many reasons to use an anti-gravity treadmill to aid your injury rehabilitation or training program. Here are a few:
- Decreased risk of injury
- Elevated performance and conditioning
- Easier recovery
- Engaged core while running
How Do I Start?
You will need the assistance of a physical therapist or trainer for your first use. To begin, you will be required to slide on a pair of AlterG® shorts over your workout apparel. Once you have your shorts on, you are ready to lower the deck and zip into the machine. All you have to do is raise the deck and you are ready to get moving.
Simply choose the body weight percentage you would like to begin with and select a speed. Switching between percentages and speeds is easy and can improve your workout.
Is It Really That Easy?
Yes! As soon as everything is strapped in, you are ready to begin exercising. Your physical therapist or personal trainer will have a good idea of where you should begin. Depending on the extent of your injury, you may be instructed to start at a low body weight percentage. As your rehabilitation continues, you should be able to work your way up.
For performance results, your trainer will design a program that meets your goals.
The AlterG® is an innovation in physical therapy and personal training. If you have recently suffered a serious injury, or if you are hoping to avoid one, this is one measure you can take toward your path to recovery and injury prevention.
