Hip pain is a common reason that patients come to see us here at MPOWER Physical Therapy. Hip pain may stem from a variety of conditions like arthritis, bursitis, hip dysplasia, labral tears, and more. Luckily, physical therapy can often relieve hip pain and sometimes stop it completely.
If you are suffering from hip pain, seek help from a physical therapist near you. While you wait for your physical therapy appointment, try these 5 at-home exercises.
Standing Hip Circles
Stand on one leg with your other leg lifted off the ground. Make 10 circles clockwise and repeat counterclockwise. Repeat on the other leg and do this two times.
Seated Hip March
Sit up straight towards the front of a chair. Lift one leg up as high as possible and lower it back to the ground slowly. Repeat on the other leg. Do this 15 times on each leg.
Butterfly Stretch
Sit on the floor with your knees bent and your feet pressed together. Hold your feet together with your hands and use your elbows to lower your knees towards the ground. Hold this pose for 30 seconds-1 minute and repeat as desired.
Pigeon Stretch
Start by sitting on the ground with one knee bent and one leg behind you. Lean forward with your hands out in front of you until you feel a stretch in the hips. Hold this pose for 30 seconds and repeat on the other side.
Frog Stretch
Start on your hands and knees. Move your knees outward until you feel a stretch in the hips. Move your buttocks lower towards the ground and hold this pose for 30 seconds.
